Voluntary Recall of Certain Fire Extiguishers

Chubb has announced a voluntary recall to replace certain Chubb, Quell and Flameguard dry powder 1kg, 1.5kg, 2.3kg, 2.5kg and 4.5kg fire extinguishers.

With more than 50 years of experience in the fire safety industry we have built a reputation for reliable, high quality products that comply with NZ Standards.  We pride ourselves on our products and, through internal testing, recently discovered that a proportion of fire extinguishers do not meet the filling capacity requirement of the NZ Standards. As a result, the affected fire extinguishers may not release a sufficient steady stream of powder.

The recall affects dry powder 1kg, 1.5kg, 2.3kg, 2.5kg and 4.5kg fire extinguishers purchased between 16 February 2010 and 6 July 2010. Affected units are marked on the front label with the serial number:

The 1kg dry powder fire extinguishers purchased from June 2008 with a serial number between CQ148950 and CQ823764 should also be returned for replacement.

Any 1kg, 1.5kg, 2.3kg, 2.5kg and 4.5kg fire extinguisher purchased before this date or with a different serial number is not subject to recall. 

To check if your fire extinguisher has been recalled check the serial number next to the NZ Standards tick of approval. If the serial number is between [he numbers in the table above please return it to the store which you purchased it from for a certified replacement or speak to your local Chubb representative.

This replacement program was initiated by Chubb because the affected fire extinguisher in some cases may not meet New Zealand Standards.

Chubb has voluntarily undertaken the recall because it takes pride in its quality products and its commitment to its customers. Chubb will beadvising the relevant New Zealand authorities.
